Hi, Can I speak to your daddy?

(on my cell phone)

Me: Umm, who are you?

Person: Silence...A friend

Me: Yeah, and your name?

Person: ...a friend.

Me: Silence. Look, we don't know you, so Bye!

click.

***

I cannot begin to tell you how frustrated I was yesterday, when I received four calls from telemarketers on the home phone (coz I skipped school all day to study for Fin 442 midterm today, which YAY, I'm done with!) and one on my cell phone. This is the second time someone called my cell phone wanting to speak to my "daddy." I mean, okay, fine, so everyone wants to speak to my daddy or mommy on the home phone (hey, do I really sound like a child or what?) but on my cell? The thing that bothers me is that cell phone numbers aren't public information, and thus, they should have no access to it unless my service provider have given/sold it to them. Shish...

Anyway, I've scripted my response for the next telemarketer calling my cell phone:-

***

Person: Hi, Can I speak to your daddy?

Me: It is not that my daddy doesn't want to speak to you, but I own and am the cell phone user. You and your cronies cannot be calling me as you like because this is an invasion of my privacy under the Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). I urge you to go to the webstite at http://www.pipa.gov.ab.ca/. Any questions?

Person: Silence.

Me: Good. Have a good day and God bless!

Question of the day

How many hours of sleep do you get daily?

Okay, pardon my curiousity, but I really wana know how many hours of sleep you get daily, and if you are functioning well (or not really well, hmm...). You see...I usually need eight hours of sleep to be well-rested, but due to a heavier than expected schedule I have this year with various commitments, I have only been getting an average of 6 hours for the past two weeks. For the first few days, I felt awful waking up with minor headaches and puffy eyes with stinging sensation. Not fun, and it usually hinders me from putting on contact lens. Then, I'm not exceptionally productive during the day, and often times feel tired. However, after a week of those crappy days, I am now waking up feeling okay...no headaches and red eye. I am also more productive and able to do more things since I have more waking hours at hand. Okay, so maybe I don't look that great without sufficient sleep, quoting my friend Patrick whom I ocassionally meet at school, "You look tired."

Ahh....(no wonder he doesn't have a gf! :p)

So, back to you. How many hours of sleep do you get?

My Small Group's Favourite Verses

Joliane ~ The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)

Cathy ~ Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I wil give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. (Matthew 11:28-29)

Winnie ~ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Mihee ~ But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. (2 Peter 3:8)

Adrienne ~ For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, not anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

Me ~ My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

Yunus wins Nobel Peace Prize

A true social entrepreneur Yunus is! I have always been inspired by the economist's creation and revolution in the micro-credit lending initiative in Bangladesh that have been duplicated all across the world.

I said "Hey" to that brown sweatshirt...

Okay, so today marks the third week since our initial bumping incident. I had been feeling quite tired of the whole smiling and non-smiling game. I see him every Tuesday and Thursday in class and in the hallway and it's weird to just ignore each other.

So anyway, I saw him in Finance class today. Then I saw him in BLAW class again. Nobody said hi.

Went my happy merry way to the Winspear Library to study for a bit until it was time to meet Amy. Went to Eonfire Office to grab my apples to be distributed to my Navs friends during Navs Leaders Development Time later and was proceeding to go to HUB. Then...out of the corner of my eye I saw him standing at the Business Building doorway connected to HUB (second floor). Ahhh, you won't believe it, but my initial reaction was to turn around, go down to first floor then to HUB. I had already spun around, then thought to myself, HEY, why am I avoiding him? That's stupid! So anyway...walked with all the courage I could muster and saw that he was in a conversation with a girl. He turned, and well, at the same time I smiled, and said "Hey!" He gave a little wave and said "hey" and I scooted out through the door after I had passed them. Whew!

See...I DID IT! I said "Hey!!!" Don't I deserve a cookie for being a brave friendly gal??

Thank God I didn't fail!

Some of you have asked how I had done on my BLAW 444 Midterm. So yeah, just wanted to let you know that I got the results today, and I didn't fail, thank GOD! Wana guess what was the highest mark on the midterm? It was a measly 78%...and the average was 63%. I still did bad, but not that bad, since everyone did bad I guess. Ahh, I'm just grateful that I don't feel as stupid now, since the whole class did badly as it was just a purely difficult exam.

The next two weeks is going to be a busy time for me, so here's my schedule so you can pray for me!

Tuesday, Oct 17: BLAW 402 Midterm
Thursday, Oct 19: FIN 442 Assignment Due
Friday, Oct 20: Econ 211 Paper Due

Tuesday, Oct 24: BUEC 479 Midterm
Thursday, Oct 26: FIN 442 Midterm

Thank you for keeping me in prayer!

Thanksgiving...

I had my share of (no not turkey) ham and scalloped potatoes yesterday. Spent Thanksgiving at my neighbours' and it was very yummy. Hadn't done a whole lot of reflection about what I am thankful for...but indeed, I have so many things to be thankful for!

Currently really swamped with school work, and I think I failed last Friday's BLAW midterm! It was soooo tough...please pray for God's miraculous hand on this. I have four more midterms and two assignments coming in these two weeks, so trying to prepare for it...but feel like time is a commodity in shortage!!

But yeah, in spite of the busyness and stress of school, I am enjoying my last bit of school and learning. Navigators is going awesome. Joliane and I are leading a girl's group and we're studying about Faith. Oh, and Navigators Weekly Leadership Development Time are just AMAZING I tell ya! We are currently studying about what it means to be a disciple, and the last discussion we had was for three hours on three verses:

Luke 14:26-27, 33

"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters - yes, even his own life - he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple."

v33: In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple."

There were so many new insights for me though it's such a commonly quoted verse. It has changed my perception on what the "cross" in this context means! And yes, if you wana have a discussion on it, please email me or something. Indeed, the choice of following Christ is a very very costly one, which dictates we give up everything to do His will. Easy words, but difficult decisions have to be made. When approached by situations which we have to choose to either honour Him or do our own thing, it is difficult and painful. I have experienced some of it, and it's tough...But on a smaller scale, we actually face that choice everyday: to do His will or our own thing. Are you doing His will, or doing your own thing today?

Hmm...

Then coming to Eonfire, it is going great! Our Fall Forum on Social Entrepreneurship with Mayor Mandel and Pernille Ironside was extremely well attended last Thursday, with 80 students. I was also interviewed for an article, which was very cool. Ah, and kinda related but separate from Eonfire, a CBC reporter wanted to interview me as he was looking for a student who has social considerations when approaching future career. It was for broadcast on Monday, and at the end, it didn't work out because he was too busy to schedule for the recording. But it was still very cool as we had a preliminary interview via telephone, and he sounded interested about Eonfire. Hopefully one day he'll come knocking on our door wanting to feature us.

Okay, so anyways, coming back to Thanksgiving, there are SOOOOoooo many things to be thankful for: His Grace and Peace comforting me during the period when my aunt was ill with cancer until the time she passed away, being home during summer, serving Him, good friends and yeah, being in school doing what I like at this point in time. I'm satisfied at the moment though it's not all red roses at vicinity...far from it. But yeah, I am thankful for the meaning I have in life right now.

How about you? Satisfied with life?

How do you take pics when it's so extremely bright? What function do you put your camera to?

1 Samuel 16:7

How Majestic You are Lord!

David's Prayer:

10 David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,
"Praise be to you, O LORD,
God of our father Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.

11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.

12 Wealth and honor come from you;
you are the ruler of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.

13 Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name.

I'm Gona Fail!

Ahhhh, BLAW 444 Midterm this Friday, and I'm gona fail!! Been busy preparing for Eonfire's Speaker Event amidst other commitments.

Trying to study for the Midterm, and the chapters seem never-ending. Why are Law texts like that?

Please pray for God's Grace to fall on me!
