Who Am I?

Who am I?
That the Lord of all the earth,
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt.
Who am I?
That the bright and morning star,
Would choose to light the way,
For my ever wandering heart.

Chorus:
Not because of who I am,
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done,
But because of who you are.

I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,(ocean)
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
I am yours.
I am yours.

Who am I?
That the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love
And watch me rise again.
Who am I?
That the voice that calmed the sea,
Would call out through the rain,
And calm the storm in me.

Chorus 2x

I am yours.
I am yours.

Whom shall I fear?
Whom shall I fear?
'Cause I am yours.
I am yours.

An Autumn's Day

The Smiling Match is On!

Alright, Min and Hui Chuan are right. I'm not shy...

After all those smiles being tossed two and fro, I seriously contemplated of just casually saying hi coz I was a bit tired of it.

See, I found out more stuff. Like OMG, we are in the same finance class too! Today a student sitting next to him asked a question during finance class, so I turned to look at her, and then at the same time, he looked at me. So I think both of us were a little shocked. Then then, he is also an executive with one of the Business Clubs, so our office is two doors away! So yeah, I see him quite a bit on Tues/Thurs. But other days, nope.

So I was thinking since we keep on bumping into each other and I'm a friendly girl, I may as well say hi. Then, in law class today, I decided not to. See, he was sitting right in front of me again, and then after class, he turned to me and smiled. So, naturally I smiled back. I thought this would be the most natural scenario to casually say hi. But he didn't say hi...so why should I say hi? And I know he isn't mute since he asks questions in class. So it would be unfair for me to say hi. So...I decided not to be a friendly girl. A tit for tat.

I've decided. Everytime he smiles handsomely at me, I'll smile back sweetly. That's the game plan!

To my dear concerned readers, please don't be too concerned. I am taking in your advice of being "friends" with him. I really am. See, right now we have a smiling friendship!

That brown sweatshirt - Second Series

That brown sweatshirt person wore green today. Bumped into each other twice. I smiled once. Pretended not to notice the second time.

I feel weird. How does one react in such a situation? Keep on smiling everytime we bump into each other??

That brown sweatshirt.

Do you ever take notice of the hundreds of people you walk past daily? My guess is no. I don't. I have way too many things on my mind to take notice. Strangely, I bump into a stranger in a brown sweatshirt four times yesterday! Four times in different locations at different times. It is all quite strange. We don't know each other's name. Never did exchange a word, only a smile every time we met again. Strangely enough, I don't think I remember how the person looks at all -- because I really recognized the colour of the clothing. That brown sweatshirt.

My Aunts are kinda funny...

THE AUNTS ARE BACK!

I've never thought of my aunts as weird or funny. But maybe they are...?!?

They came back last night and we went out to Asian Grill for a steamboat buffet. It was really yummy! When we came back home, both of them asked me about the new plant displayed in the middle of the living room.

I had two separate conversations with the two aunts.

Conversation One

Aunt A: Nice plant, where did you get it?

Me: Oh, my friend gave it to me for my birthday. It's a miniature pepper plant, and the small peppers have really nice colours!

Aunt A: Went closer to have a look. Wow, it does have pretty colours. Looks at me. Haha, your friend must think of you as a small pepper so she gave you this!

Me: Uhuh...raises eyebrows...

Conversation Two

Aunt B: Looks at the plant...

Me: Looks at the plant too...

Aunt B: Which boyfriend gave you that?

Me: Raises eyebrows. Uh, my friend gave me that for my birthday.

Aunt B: Goes off tangent and I can't remember the whole conversation we had after that.

I think they're weird...

Eonfire launch at the University of Alberta!

Hi Guys! Just an update on what is going on with Eonfire - University of Alberta! We managed to sign up 140 people during Club's Fair and our pizza social went really well! We had three special speakers: Dr. Gary McPherson, Tyler Wry and Jeff Coleman who spoke about student's power to create social change through social entrepreneurship. We had about 35 students and it was very encouraging for a new club such as us to attract that many students from an array of field of studies. I personally talked to many students, and what was most amazing was that many of them already have ideas of social projects they want to develop but they just don't know where to start! It's all exciting considering the response we have, and what is weird is that we have more response from the science faculty than the business school...

I've just submitted two proposals for funding (for Eonfire Decentral) so please pray with me that the potential donors will want to fund us to empower young people to be socially responsible leaders in our society permeating into the world.

On another note, our mentor Dr. Gary McPherson is running for the PC Leadership Race in Alberta. He is one of the most amazing man I know and his life story attests to that. I fully support him considering his diverse experience in politics and leadership in social issues. Please visit www.teammcpherson.com and consider supporting him by way of purchasing a membership card and voting for him when the time comes!

After Surrender - What?

Snatched "My Utmost For His Highest" from below my bed and dashed for the bus. Read the entry for September 13 on my way home on the LRT.

What do you know, it is on "After Surrender - What?"

God really has his timing I tell ya. The "surrendering" period lasted for 5 months, and now I feel that God is bringing me on higher grounds. He's been teaching me lately about His Faithfulness and promising me He'll take care of me.

Entry on September 13 is one page long, but the utmost important message is:

After surrender - what? The whole of the life after surrender is an aspiration for unbroken communion with God.

PLEASE PRAY THAT I'LL FIND IT!

I have a plant!

I got the little guy on the left as a gift for my b'day from Joliane. Like I said two posts ago, I was a little apprehensive when I opened the gift...coz I killed five of my Aunt's indoor plants last year! (shhh...don't go telling Joliane now!) So anyways, I'm pleading with any botanist or amateur gardener for advice. How much water do I give my little guy? How much sunlight does it need? Yikes! It's just that a plant has life...and I don't wana kill a cute plant which is now given to me - which is now my responsibility. I'm getting fond of it too...I wake up and early in the morning I see this green guy which symbolizes life. A life which is now under my care. Farmer or not, I'm going to take good care of this plant!

What did I do??

Some of you know that I was toying with the idea of making a resolution not to give people "love slaps" anymore...

It has really come out of my ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Class which emphasizes on Communications. I mean, I don't go hitting a stranger or whatever, but how would giving "love slaps" communicate what I am thinking/feeling/reacting to a situation? It just isn't being a very good communicator...

So anyways, yesterday we had a vote at the party...and it was something like 9-3, so I'm officially making it my 22nd Birthday Resolution not to give people "love slaps" anymore.

'Tis gona be hard, but it's just a habit, right...?

I'm 22!

Actually, I'm officially 22 + 1 day. Yikes!

Just wana say thanks to all my friends and family who wished me a Happy Birthday. I really appreciate the e-cards, e-mails, cards, sms-es and presents. Thanks Paul, for organizing a truly Asian party for me and for all you guys who came.

I don't know why, but every year Lina sms-es me at 4am on Sep 3rd to wish me...ei, I wana sleep lah! Oh, and I got a present that really caught me off guard - a miniature pepper plant. I know I know...I say I wana marry a farmer, but in reality, I'm not really a good gardener. So how?? I'll try to take care of the plant...I promise.

Turning 22 doesn't feel much different really. Felt like just another day, especially when I was in Butterdome recruiting people for Eonfire all day. It was awesome though, we had a lot of response from a spectrum of students. But thank you my friends, for remembering my birthday and for being a friend. I appreciate it!

My Fort McMurray Trip

My six days of vacation in Fort McMurray hosted by Miss Genevieve Kalnins and her family:

Day One: Tour on Syncrude Oilsands Plant and Mine

The refinery plant greets you at first sight...

I had two private tours down the mine with Gen's dad and boss.

I didn't really expect to go ON the mine itself, but Gen's boss was kind enough to give us a tour ON the site. It was very cool stepping on the oilsands and seeing the real action going on...

In front of a Shovel. It is HUMONGOUS - and we got to STEP inside the electrical machine!

Oil sands is causing a boom in Fort McMurray whose economic growth is permeating in Alberta. The tar sands is mined and extracted from bitumen which is then upgraded into synthetic crude oil. The small town of Fort McMurray is no longer small and has developed into a very busy concentrated oil industry with a population of 70,000. It was very nice visiting Fort Mc and see the actual mine instead of just hearing about it. Very educational and a great experience. Thank you so much Gen for the great tour!

Day Two - Day Six

Lotsa eating, playing games, watching chicky flicks (uhuh...), walks and more eating.

We played dongkey conga everyday. Day and night! It's pretty cool. It's kinda like slapping on the conga at the right rhythm when you see the notes on the screen. Quite challenging to the bad-rhythmic Grace...

Lotsa barbequing, eating, fire and smores...

Becky's hamburger with her signature on it :)

Playing with Gen's "kids." They're the sweetest cutest kids really!
