The essence of evolution of democracy

Amidst Malaysia's current heated political situation, I think we ought to learn from Mahatma Gandhi's very wise words:

"Evolution of democracy is not possible if we are not prepared to hear the other side."

Malaysia, let us hear from all sides if we truly believe in democracy and want to advance it in our country.

Too sad for Malaysia... During the 2000 elections in Malysia, my neighbour (who is Bittish but had been in Malysia for over 20 years)had asked for a permit to vote, but was declined. Same for her husband who was born in Malaysia but was Portugese. They both were convinced that it was the government who was pulling strings, since he was afraid (and rightly so) that they wouldn't vote for him. Also, a lot of people from my church then said that the gorvernment gave money to the poor right before the elections so that they would be influenced to vote for him. Corruption. Hope that may change one day, before the USA decided to find oil and weapons of mass destructions in Malaysia!

Well Joliane, attaining citizenship is quite something different.

I am currently more concerned about the lack of democracy and voice of the people. I think the greatest gift a nation can have is to come together in unity to listen to each other's interests and make a nation work.
